Aetna String Quartet

The AETNA quartet was founded in 2016 and its members come from diverse and significant musical experiences, which influenced their artistic journey. As chamber music players they performed in Italy and other Countries such as France, Germany, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Slovenia, Croatia, New Zealand, Russia, China.

During the years of their musical training they studied with important musicians such as Corrado Romano, Sergei Girschenko, Rocco Filippini, Augusto Vismara, Luigi Piovano, Arturo Bonucci, Francesco Strano, Felice Cusano, Giulio Franzetti. Afterwards they enriched their musical experiences at the prestigious Accademia Europea del Quartetto. The former Hermes quartet, consisting of the two violinists Marcello Spina and Alessio Nicosia, the cellist Alessandro Longo and the violist Simone Paradiso, was among the few Italian quartets to be admitted to the Pro Quartet Foundation in Paris with honors in the last 30 years. In the French capital they followed the Masterclasses of Walter Levine (La Salle Quartet), Valentin Erben (Alban Berg Quartet), Heime Muller (Artemis Quartet) and Louis Fima (Arpeggione Quartet).In 2016 the violist Gaetano Adorno became a member of the group. He came from the well-known Quartetto Archimede, which had been performing in Italy and abroad from 1999 to 2015.

The new quartet, now composed of the violinists Marcello Spina and Alessio Nicosia, the violist Gaetano Adorno and the cellist Alessandro Longo, takes the name of Aetna, obviously referring to the geographical area its members come from. The primary aim of the four Sicilian musicians is to promote chamber music, expecially the string quartet repertoire.

In almost two years from its foundation, the Aetna quartet have been performing for important Italian musical associations, gaining the approval of both audience and critics. In 2016, in occasion of one of its first concerts at Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania, the critics reported: “Aetna, the taste of musical elegance… they highlighted the smallest details… they know how to master both rythm and melody… entwining the four different instrumental voices in a dialogue which was moving, engaging and elegant at the same time“ (from the daily newspaper “La Sicilia”).

She got her degree in piano “magna cum laude” and honoured mention at the Vincenzo Bellini Music Institute of Catania under the guidance of Giuseppe Cultrera.

She specialized with Sergio Perticaroli at the Hochschule fiir Musik of the Mozarteum in Salzburg and at the international summer courses "Fedele Fenaroli" in Lanciano. Specialized with Michele Marvulli at the Accademia Musicale Pescarese, he graduated from the three-year high-level course. She won a prize also in duo piano formation in many important national and international piano competitions: «Pina Avagliano» in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, «Città di Messina», «Città di Torre Orsaia», «Città di Sulmona», «Città di Pozzallo», «Città di Lanciano “Ornella Puliti Santoliquido”», «Coppa pianisti d’Italia di Osimo», «Città di Marsala».
She performed as a soloist with the “Sicilian Symphony Orchestra”, the "Mario Gusella" Symphony Orchestra, the "Fedele Fenaroli" Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Marchigiana Symphony Orchestra, the Novgorod Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra « Orfeo Stillo ».

Guest of important musical seasons and festivals, he plays an intense concert activity in Italy and abroad as a soloist, with orchestra and in chamber ensembles. She has played many first absolute performances of compositions to herself dedicated.

Since 1985 she is teacher for the main piano course and for orchestra repertory at Vincenzo Bellini Superior Music Institute in Catania. She also gives summer music specialization courses within the Festival «Crotone Musica» and at ‘’Norma Musica Festival’’. She is frequently invited as a juror in national and international competitions.

In 2008 he founded the Music Association "Cromatismi del Mediterraneo" of which he is artistic director, with the aim of enhancing and promoting young talents who want to make music their profession.
